Biography

Hi, my name is Philippe or just Phil to avoid confusion sometimes. I’m a Swiss from the south part of the Röstigraben (the french part). I also speak the more obscure Swiss-German language due to my roots and a bit of Spanish, which I learnt through my travels abroad.

After finishing my Computer Science studies at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), I had the chance to travel to Middle-Earth (also known as New Zealand) to work in the movie industry at Weta Digital. I then decided to continue my rendering research as a PhD student in Saarbrücken, where I now simulate light transport at the edge of the visible spectrum.

In my free time, when not working on some toy project, I like to play all sorts of instruments, including the euphonium, the trumpet and the saxophone. You might also see me paint miniatures, climbing walls, cycling, or just around the corner for a beer :)
