Biography

Hi I’m Lukas! I am born and raised in Saarland but from time to time I also like to venture out to other cool places (always returning of course 😉).

When I started my studies at Saarland University I discovered that I really enjoy working with mathematical models, none being cooler than the rendering equation! I find it magical that it enables us to simulate light and makes it possible to recreate the beauty of nature. These days I can’t walk through a forest without noticing the god rays shining down from the leaf canopy and my friends never get tired of complaining when I point out cool light effects 🥲.

In my research I currently focus on optimizing path guiding distributions, following the motto: Everything the light touches… could use better sampling.

When I am not working at the University you can either find me playing board games with friends, grinding the Teamfight Tactics ladder or doing sport 🏊🚴🏃.

Lastly, it’s dangerous to render alone. Take this: “He who lives in a glass house shall not throw shadow rays.”
