My image depicts a fallen basket of fruit scattered across the floor, illuminated by a sharp beam of light streaming through a partially opened door. A chicken stands at the threshold, just out of focus, leaving it up to the viewer to decide whether it's just a witness to the mess or the one that caused it.
I was generally inspired by classical still life paintings and the Baroque period (one
of my favourite artists is Caravaggio), and more specifically inspired by Federico Jiménez
Fernández's "Judgement of Paris", which is a parody involving chickens. I wanted to
create a humorous and dramatic scene that combined those elements: a still life with strong lighting
and shadows, involving a chicken.
I specifically included the skull, the goblet, and the lemons as they are common still life
motifs. One of the legs of the table the basket fell from can also be barely seen on the right of
the image.
